Hotel Points

I have spent most of the last two months in the LA area getting our new account running. While here I have been staying at a La Quinta Inn. I had signed up for their returns program and started earning hotel points. I also used my company card to pay for the rooms of the other members of our startup team. Because of the hotels fall promotion I have earned almost 700,000 points. These can be redeemed for free hotel nights, airline miles and other merchandise from their website.

Tonight I am sitting here in my hotel room listening to the wind outside. It is really howling tonight. I am told they are called the Santa Anna Winds. The news said that there are gust up to 70 miles an hour. I was outside and the winds nearly blew me over.

We have nearly got this start up whipped. When we first started we were hiring everyone that could pass the background check. Now we are at the point we can start cutting back on staffing to have just what we need.

Mom and Dad Playing Ball??

(Double Click on Images to Enlarge)

My brother, Gary, had about 35 people at his house on Thanksgiving Day. They were all related to us. Thanksgiving day also happened to be Mom and Dads 64th wedding anniversary. Gary says it was a beautiful day in KC, around 70 degrees. They spend some time in the back yard hitting a wiffle ball around. As you can see in the pictures Mom and Dad participated by taking a turn at bat.

The day after Thanksgiving

Well Thanksgiving has come and gone. I came home on Tuesday and have had a vey relaxing week. So relaxing that I have not even taken the time to update my blog even though I have had plenty of time. I have spend a lot of time with my father in law just puttering around the house. Of course on yesterday we had a very good Thanksgiving day dinner. Sharon did a great job on the turkey and everything else. The NFL had three games yesterday. The usual two games at Detroit and Dallas and the NFL Network had their first ever live broadcast. It featured Denver at Kansas City. I am proud to say that the Chiefs won 19-10 and are now at 7-4.

Tonight, Ralph and I are watching the Gator basketball team play Western Kentucky. So far they are not playing a very good game. But it is still early in the first half. They play Kansas tomorrow night. I will let you know how they do.

The Gator football team closes out the regular season tomorrow against Florida State. On paper the Gators should win, but in this game you never know.

A Long Week

It has been a long week here in southern California. The start up is entering into the final phases. We have gotten both the receiving and the shipping sides of the warehouse running. Last weekend was a real challenge. We did not have anywhere near enough employees to cover the shifts. This week we have hired what should be enough employees to cover what we need. We have also contacted a temp agency to supply some employees. After we get all of this in place it ended up being a slow weekend. I do not think we will have a problem of being understaffed this week more like a problem of over staffed( which is better.)

A Great Week

Another week has passed and it was a good week. I came back out to Ontario, CA on Monday and was busy getting ready to start the loading side of the Mervyn's warehouse. Then on Thursday Sharon came out to spend the weekend with me. Saturday was her 50th birthday. I took the weekend off to spend with her. We went to the high desert on Saturday. We first went to a Ghost Town. It was founded in the silver mining days of the late 1800's. The name of the town is Calico. There was a lot of interesting things to see there.

After the ghost town we went to Camp Ironwood. A young man that grew up in our church is on staff there along with his wife. They are Naion and Laura Lundy. They gave us a tour of the camp and then we went out to eat with them and spent the night in one of the cabins. They really have a nice place. This morning we went to church with them to Barstow Baptist Temple.

We left after we ate lunch to come back to Ontario. We wanted to get on the highway before it got packed with those returning from Las Vegas.

We got back in time to see the end of the race and to find out that both Kansas City and the Jaquars won their games. On Saturday the Gators won and the Tennessee Volunteers lost which means that Florida will play in the SEC championship game. If they win out they also have a good chance of playing in the National Championship game.

Just for the fun of it

An interesting site I found.

Changing the Sign

And then this will keep you busy for a while

The Button

Rambling

It was nice to be home for a few days. I was able to spend some time with Sharon and to go to my own church on Sunday. Sunday evening services were really special. We had family night. Many family's in the church performed special music and testimonies were given. Pastor then spoke from I Peter 3. He gave us six words for a happy home. His first word was Authority. The man is to be the head of the home. This does not mean that the woman is inferior to the man just that her role is different. The next word was Appreciation. The husband is to honor his wife. The third word was Adaptability. We are different. Differences can give depth perception.
Forth word is Acceptance. Then Availability and lastly Affection.

After church we met in a fellowship hall for Ice Cream and a time of fellowship. It was a great day.

Earlier in the day I did watch a little football. The Jaquars were able to defeat the Eagles and the Chiefs defeated the Seahawks. In my last blog I had mentioned that there was a little college game on this past Saturday. The Gators took an early lead and then held on to Beat the Bulldogs. In the latest BCS standings the Gators were ranked # 4. If they win rest of there games this season they have a very good chance of playing for the National Championship.

Monday I arrived back in Caifornia. We are getting ready to add the Outbound side of the Mervyn's warehouse. I am here to get the rest of the crew hired to do the work which begins on Monday the 6th.

Sharon will be out here this weekend. The 4th of November will be her 5oth birthday.
